Alex Laing is Director of Music at Wells Cathedral School. He trained as a violinist and musician at Cambridge University and at the Birmingham Conservatoire where he was awarded the Diploma of Professional studies in Music Performance. After finishing in tertiary education he began to build a portfolio career as an orchestral leader, chamber musician, presenter, writer and educator. He is best known now as a coach and conductor especially of youth ensembles. His work with the Benedetti Foundation sees him teaching and working with musicians from young beginners to conservatoire students and adult learners as well as working with music teachers on how best to lead, direct and conduct ensembles. This has led him to be described as one of a very rare breed who can inspire musicians of all ages and stages.
