RUBY CHEUNG
ACCOMPANIST

Ruby has just completed her undergraduate studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland under the tuition of Sasa Gerzelj in classical piano on scholarship. Born in Hong Kong, she began piano at the age of four. She studied at the International Christian Quality Music Secondary and Primary School for eight years as a music and art specialist, with scholarship and external funding. Ruby later came to England and studied at Wells Cathedral School from 2018 to 2022 as a specialist musician with a full scholarship, under the tuition of Olena Shvetsova. She was the Keyboard Captain at Wells in 2021.

Ruby has numerous achievements in competitions, including winning three categories in the Zhongsin Piano Music Competition, which gave her the opportunity to record on the winners’ CD in 2016. During her time at Wells, Ruby won the Recital Class and Classical Category at the Mid-Somerset Festival.

She was a finalist in the EPTA Competition in 2019, and a regional finalist in the BBC Young Musician competition in both 2020 and 2022. In October 2025, Ruby was invited to give a piano recital at Wells Cathedral School as part of the Rising Star Series.

During her studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Ruby won the Bach Prize during her first year. More recently, she was awarded Highly Commended in the RCS Classical Concerto Competition for her performance of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2. She also studies organ and jazz piano at the RCS, and has worked as a church musician in Glasgow.

Last summer, Ruby was invited back to Encore Music Projects as an assistant and accompanist. In autumn 2026, she will return to Wells Cathedral School as a Graduated Music Assistant.
