YOGA & WELL-BEING

This year we are offering complimentary yoga classes with a professional Yoga teacher.

The relationship between music and yoga is not new. In fact, Yehudi Menuhin studied yoga for many years with BKS Iyengar, famously giving him a watch with an inscription 'to my best violin teacher'.

After sitting and practising an instrument, the yoga classes provide a fun opportunity to stretch and move the body. The poses challenge each one in different ways, teaching firmness, steadiness and benevolence of spirit.

A changing sequence (of standing, balancing, forward and backward extension, inverted, twisting, supine poses) keeps the mind alert, sensing, aware and stimulates positive thinking. Lying at the end of class, the body rests profoundly allowing an experience of inner silence. This means the students return to the music calm and refreshed.

The precision and alignment of the Iyengar method will complement the teaching of music. The practice provides a tool for finding quietness and confidence.

B.K.S. Iyengar — 'Yoga is like music: the rhythm of the body, the melody of the mind, and the harmony of the soul create the symphony of life.'
