Introduction

Following thirteen hugely successful courses, we are thrilled to announce that our Summer 2027 programme will once again take place at Wells Cathedral Specialist Music School — one of the most prestigious music schools in the world, renowned for attracting exceptionally gifted young musicians from across the globe. We warmly invite children and young adults up to 22 years of age to join us from all corners of the world, to develop their musical talents in a safe, stimulating, and friendly environment where creativity flourishes and friendships are formed.

Our aim is to inspire every student through tuition and guidance of the highest calibre, delivered by world-class performers and teachers who bring not only expertise but genuine passion and encouragement. Students will have the extraordinary opportunity to listen to and perform alongside these distinguished musicians, all within the stunning surroundings of Wells Cathedral School. With outstanding facilities for music-making, comfortable accommodation, excellent food, and a vibrant international community, we expect our students to work and play with energy, curiosity, and enthusiasm.

Encore Music Projects International Summer School was founded in 2013 by pianist Olena Shvetsova and her husband, cellist Richard May, with the vision of creating a summer programme in the exclusive setting of a UK Specialist Music School. Now in its 14th year, the 2027 course returns to the historic and world-renowned Wells Cathedral Specialist Music School, set in the picturesque city of Wells, Somerset — a place that attracts visitors from around the world and is only 30 minutes by taxi from Bristol Airport.

The course is designed for intermediate and advanced students of piano, strings, conducting, composition, theory, and chamber ensembles. Expert tuition focuses on developing technique, musical style, interpretation, stage performance, presentation, and preparation for competitions and auditions. Students will explore both new and established repertoire, and the emphasis throughout the course is on making music together. Every student receives a daily one-to-one lesson and takes part in chamber music, piano workshops and masterclasses, cello and violin masterclasses, ensembles, and — where instrument appropriate — the String Chamber Orchestra. There is also the opportunity to join our Chamber Choir.

In the evenings, inspiration continues with a series of concerts given by our world-class faculty. Students will also enjoy time for recreation, including use of the school's covered swimming pool, exclusive access to the beautiful grounds, and our organised “day off”. They will be able to visit the charming cafés and shops of Wells in small groups, just a two-minute walk from the school.
